RENEWING
More people in England now renew their vows after a good few years in marriage than ever before. There are two ways to do this, in the Church of England, or in a Civil Ceremony.
In this section, I will take you though the usual way it's done and little extras. I hope it helps all you second timers!!
TRADITION..
The Church of England way of renewing your vows to each other is also known as "thanksgiving for marriage". There are lots of reasons why couples want to renew their vows to each other, to celebrate a time of happy marriage and wanting to re-establish that the vows still are the basis for the marriage, or after a bad spell or a separation in the marriage.
A lot of couples think that the ceremony has to be in the same one that they were married in the first time, but it doesn't at all! More often than not, most couples do like to have it in the same Church. The ceremony won't have any legal standing and is as you'd like it to be. It's all your preferences and can last as long as you'd like.
Alternatively, a blessing can be an equally beautiful way to put a seal on your commitment to each other instead of renewing your vows to one another.
CIVIL CEREMOINES..
Until very recently, if you weren't married in a Church it's been just so hard to find an official way of renewing your vows to each other. Which is a sad fact really considering if you were initially married in a Church you can!! But, now there is a way!! Lots of local authorities have started to provide a celebrant, who will perform a renewal ceremony in almost all registry offices and approved venues where you could have a civil wedding, which is good news!!
These ceremonies don't have any legal standing; they are renewal ceremonies and won't be performed on non-married couples. Just exclusively for married couples.
Renewal ceremonies don't have to be years and years after the first marriage. They are perfect if you want to marry abroad and then have a massive party when you get back!
